Nairobi ODM Leader's press Statement on the New Political Development in Kenya

On Friday last week, our Party Leader who is also the NASA Leader H.E. Raila Amolo Odinga made a bold move to meet his political antagonist H.E. Uhuru Muigai Kenyatta. The move was historic and memorable not only for the two, but the whole Nation which since the bungled August 8th 2017 Presidential election, has been a divided one. The move signaled the intention to bury their political differences and open a new leaf for Kenya.

In their meeting, the two leaders, whose fathers were the founding leaders of our great Republic, Mzee Jaramogi Oginga Odinga and Mzee Jomo Kenyatta discussed a myriad of issues of National importance that included unity of the country, tackling the electoral injustice which has for long denied Kenyans their rightfully elected leaders, ensuring the independence of the Judiciary and other independent bodies among others.

Kenya has stagnated for long. Nothing is moving. The economy is in shambles. We have as NASA coalition been talking about Dialogue to iron the issues that are affecting the nation. Friday’s meeting may not just have come at the right time. It was timely and with good intentions.

As the ODM Chairpersons drawn from the 17 Branches of Nairobi County, we unequivocally render our support to our party Leader H.E. Raila Odinga and the efforts he is putting in place to foster unity and inclusivity among Kenyans.

It is not lost to us of the spirited efforts by some leaders and their surrogates who have made it their business to oppose any efforts advanced by our Party Leader. We want to remind them that Kenya is greater than our ambitions. Kenya is greater than anyone of us. Kenya is greater than Uhuru and Raila. We cannot let Kenya go.
In the words of the great Philosopher, Aristotle, “Moral excellence comes about as a result of habit. We become just by doing just acts, temperate by doing temperate acts, brave by doing brave acts.” Let the other NASA Co-Principals lead by example and join in the efforts to unite Kenya. It is either they join other Kenyans to break a new dawn or perish in MISRI (Egypt). They must be reminded that one cannot escape the responsibility of tomorrow by evading it today.

Thank you. God Bless Kenya.
