General Election in Zimbabwe

PRESS RELEASE

The ODM Party wishes to take great exception to reports doing rounds both locally and internationally that an aide to the Party Leader H.E. Excellency Raila Amolo Odinga was involved the in recent violence that occurred in Harare, Zimbabwe shortly after the announcement of the winner of the general election held last week.

We want to categorically state that the party nor the office of the party leader sent any one or any representatives to Harare either to witness or on observer mission in the general election.

Southern Africa media has claimed that Mr Silas Jakakimba was involved in organizing violence that rocked Harare where several people were reportedly killed and scores of others injured in the skirmishes, hence being blamed on H.E. Raila Odinga.

The ODM wishes to state that Mr. Jakakimba travelled to Harare on his own volition and was neither representing the party or the party leader.

Although Mr. Jakakimba is known to Mr. Odinga, having worked in the Office of the Prime Minister when he was the Prime Minister of the Republic of Kenya, he is neither an employee of the ODM Party or the Raila Odinga Secretariat.
