The ODM Journey
Since its foundation, the Orange Democratic Movement has been at the forefront of Kenya's democratic struggle, championing constitutional reforms, social justice, and equitable development.
Foundation of ODM
The Orange Democratic Movement was founded as a coalition of political parties following the Constitutional Referendum where the 'Orange' symbol was used to represent those opposing the proposed constitution.
First General Election
ODM participated in its first general election, emerging as a major political force with significant representation in Parliament and local governments across Kenya.
Grand Coalition Government
Following post-election negotiations, ODM became part of the Grand Coalition Government, with party leader Raila Odinga serving as Prime Minister of Kenya.
Constitutional Referendum
ODM played a key role in the successful campaign for a new constitution, which was approved in a national referendum and promulgated on August 27, 2010.
CORD Coalition
ODM formed the Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (CORD) with other like-minded parties to contest the general election, continuing to advocate for democratic reforms and social justice.
NASA Coalition
The party joined the National Super Alliance (NASA), a coalition of opposition parties that contested the general election with a platform focused on governance reforms and economic empowerment.
The Handshake
A historic handshake between ODM leader Raila Odinga and President Uhuru Kenyatta marked the beginning of a cooperation agreement aimed at addressing national challenges and promoting unity.
Azimio la Umoja Coalition
ODM became a founding member of the Azimio la Umoja Coalition, bringing together multiple political parties under a common vision for Kenya's future development and governance.
